Quid retribuam Domino pro omnibus quæ retribuit mihi? (Ps. 116)
(“What shall I return to the Lord for all the things he has rendered to me?)
Dear Friends of Father Gabriel Richard High School,
The words of the Psalmist strikes such a chord in the human experience that even the Church has integrated these words into her liturgy. The posture of thankfulness is one that should strike all of us for the many lavish gifts that God has bestowed upon us. In particular, the opportunity for a Catholic education is one of the greatest gifts that we can receive.
Catholic Education is different from other educational options available. Indeed, it is the only education that takes account of a human person’s eternal destiny and helps students ask the great questions of life: Why am I here? Where am I going? Is there a truth? Is there a God who loves me? What is happiness? What is true friendship? Catholic Education also takes seriously the obligation to cultivate the talents and abilities of students.
Athletics and other co-curricular activities allow students to learn discipline and enhance their individual gifts in an environment of seeing them as further gifts of a good and gracious Father. In addition to acquiring the skills needed for college and life, students are taught to consider the eternal and lasting things—and to understand the purpose for which they were created.
Father Gabriel Richard High School (formerly St. Thomas High School) has been helping students to answer these questions for nearly 150 years! It is a great privilege to be part of an institution that has been part of the educational and evangelistic mission of the Church for these many years and, please God, for many more. The newly created Office of Institutional Advancement is committed to ensuring that the type of education that Father Gabriel Richard provides continues, and that students who might not have the opportunity for a Catholic education are given that chance!
Likewise, it is our privilege to represent Father Gabriel Richard High School to the greater community through initiatives such as the Caritas in Veritate Forum and other events in concert with the parishes of the Diocese of Lansing.
There are many ways to support our efforts! Through our Annual Fund, annual Auction Dinner, and other giving opportunities, I encourage you to be part of the great mission of Catholic Education in Ann Arbor and Southeast Michigan.
Please consider making Father Gabriel Richard a part of your charitable giving. In so doing, you will be a significant part of bringing Christ to a world that so desperately needs Him and you will render unto Him a worthy gift.
In Our Lord,
John M. DeJak
