Selection for National Honor Society
The selection of members to the National Honor Society is determined by a Faculty Council of 5 members. The Faculty Council may discuss a candidate’s standing in relation to academics, leadership, and character with other faculty members in order to make a final decision. Prior to notification of any candidates, the chapter adviser reviews with the principal the results of the selection process.
Prior to selection, the following shall occur:
- Students’ academic records shall be reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility.
- Students who are eligible scholastically (“candidates”) shall be notified and asked to complete and submit the NHS Application for further consideration for selection. Students who do not submit an application, submit an application late, or submit an incomplete application will not be considered.
- The entire faculty shall be requested to evaluate candidates determined to be scholastically eligible.
- The Faculty Council shall review the applications, disciplinary records, and faculty evaluations in order to determine membership.
The selection of new, active members is held once a year in the fall with the formal induction Ceremony occurring in October.
