As we begin a new school year, we want to welcome back all students and families, and extend a special welcome to all new families. The adjustment to a new school can be challenging, so here are some tips from current mom, Arwen Mosher Parent ’24 and ’27, to help you make the most of all FGR has to offer:
- Check PlusPortals frequently. PlusPortals (plusportals.com/fgrhs) has a wealth of information you need. On the main page, you can see News, including each week’s FGR Weekly, and Resources, including calendars, schedules, and handbooks. With your login, you can access your child(ren)’s assignments and academic performance information. Checking in on PlusPortals regularly will help you keep up with FGR life.
- PlusPortals also gives you access to the school directory, with email addresses for faculty and staff. Please communicate openly with teachers! Students especially should be encouraged to reach out to their teachers whenever they have questions or concerns. Teachers want to hear from your children. Students and parents can expect to hear back from teachers within 24 hours during the school week, but not necessarily on the weekends.
- The FGR Weekly will arrive in your email inbox, you guessed it, weekly when school is in session. It will keep you up-to-date on school happenings, and there are often important administrative details in it as well, so make sure you read through to the end! It is always linked on PlusPortals too, for easy reference.
- The FGRHS calendar is updated continuously, and you can add the calendar to your own calendar by copying and pasting this link: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/3168875188f94b5f8d3bbc695dbccc7b@fgrhs.org/07d4618c6b1b42f180362dc4de00c2a514130064328414288303/calendar.ics
- FGR Irish (fgrirish.com) is your home base for all athletics information. It hosts a master calendar of all athletic events, as well as details about each individual sport. Whether you’re a sports parent or a fan, you can use FGR Irish to stay connected with the school sports community! Also, if you are a parent of an athlete, consider joining the Booster Club. It meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm in the Commons. All are welcome!
- Every FGR family is required to pay a $1,000 yearly fundraising fee, but you can offset it in part or whole by volunteering for stadium cleanup. This year, there are seven dates: 9/2, 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/14 or 10/15, 11/4 or 11/5, and 11/26. Click here for details.
- A wonderful way to fast-track your connection to the school community is to volunteer to help with the annual auction fundraiser. There are many ways to support this event, and it’s a great opportunity to meet other FGR parents. You can sign up to help here.
