Part of FGR’s commitment to this year’s theme, “KNOW Greater Love,” is a continued investment in its Households program. This year, in keeping with its theme of “making FGR a family,” the Households program is hosting periodic parties to bring students and their families together in fellowship and friendly competition. They started the year with a cornhole tournament at the end of August, and continued with a Euchre Night on Thursday, November 9th.
Twenty teams registered to compete in a euchre playoff, and parents, siblings, and friends gathered to cheer on the competitors. The night began (and for some of our hungrier community members, continued and ended) with delicious Mexican food, and then the tournament began.
In quick 15-minute rounds, players kept their eyes on the prize: 100 points to the household of their choice, with candy for the runners-up. Through double elimination, teams gradually left the competition until only one team was left still holding their cards.
Efrain Gonzalez-Perrotta ’25 and John Lobron ’24 won the grand prize, and chose to credit their household points to Kibeho and Lourdes Households. They’ll also retain bragging rights as FGR Euchre Champions – until next year’s competition, of course!
Households exist to foster holy and healthy relationships within the school community. The entire community, including faculty and staff, is divided among the four Households. While each Household competes against the others, FGR remains “Four Houses, One School,” so each Irish Family House(holds) Party is open to be enjoyed by the entire school community.
The next Household family party will be the Kibeho Coffeehouse on Wednesday, March 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. This event will feature hot beverages, pizza and salad, and board games in a relaxed atmosphere. All FGR families are invited and are asked to RSVP by Wednesday, February 28, by clicking here.
